My name is Angela Connoley and I am a qualified, registered therapeutic counsellor.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
I believe that the counselling relationship is very special. It provides space that's yours where you can explore your inner thoughts and feelings in confidence and safety.
I understand and highly value the support that counselling provides, particularly at a time when it feels as though you are struggling alone with limited options.
Personal experience of my own journey is what brought me to train as a therapist and I continue to treasure the relationship as one that provides nurture and promotes growth.
Sometimes life can be stressful and not easy to cope with and often, we can struggle not knowing what to do to help ourselves.
Some people might choose to talk to a close friend or relative but often these people can be too close to provide unbiased and confidential help,or indeed, at times may even be a part of the situation you are struggling with.
We might notice changes within our relationships or perhaps feel anxious for no apparent reason or experience extreme feelings of sadness. For many of us this can be a temporary state, whilst for others it can cause great distress with a feeling of being stuck or trapped in this difficult struggle.
Therapy offers you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that may be difficult, confusing, painful or uncomfortable. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively, understand things from your perspective and help you improve things.
Feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief, guilt, confusion and embarrassment can become very intense and counselling offers an opportunity to explore them, making them easier to understand. I will encourage the expression of feelings whilst remaining non-judgmental, but able to accept and reflect on your problems without becoming burdened by them.
You will be helped to identify goals and make any changes that you choose. I aim to build a good therapeutic relationship with you to get the best out of our work together. I understand that it is not always easy to talk about problems or perhaps to express your feelings, but in the right environment it can be very empowering and indeed healing.
Therapy is a very personal process. It is possible that talking about things that might be difficult or painful may lead to a period of feeling worse than when you started. However, the aim is to experience and overcome this as part of the therapeutic process enabling you to move forward and feel better.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to their Code of Ethics.
